Brandon Township Public Library Covering the issues and politics of climate change, dependence on oil, safe water and food supplies, this series of films is sure to get you thinking about steps our community can take to lessen its ecological footprint while guaranteeing its long term sustainability. Discussion will be led by Lois Robbins and Pam Bytner of Transitions Ortonville. March 21 – “The Story of Stuff” is a lighthearted and ironic exploration of the American addiction to stuff. With simple cartoon illustrations, the narrator traces the environmental impacts of our material economy, from manufacturing processes through consumption, to disposal. Not rated. Run time of 21 minutes. “In Debt We Trust” is an honest look at the immediate and long term consequences of our credit card society, particularly on young people and our society. It also suggests the kinds of practical efforts needed to empower the public with information to avoid the traps of debt dependency. Not rated. Run time of 98 minutes.
